Microsoft tends to provide users with big updates of the operating system every six months. Today, we are going to be showing you the new features of Windows 10 1809. The current Windows version is 1803, and 1809 is the next major update for Windows 10. Let us start with some good news before getting into the upcoming features for the Windows 10 version 1809. So, Windows 10 1809 will be released in late September. If it doesn’t get released in September, then it will be in early October. So, get ready for it, using this article.

Now, let’s get started with what’s new in the next major update of Windows 10. Unfortunately, we cannot cover every single new feature because there will be many changes to the next update of Windows 10, but we’ll show you the most exciting features for the Windows 10 version 1809.

Start Menu

Let us begin with the Start menu. You will see some visual changes to the Start menu. There is a big change in the search bar. Now, the search bar is a little bigger and wider, and it has a clearer view of what type of things you want to search. When you click in the search box, you can now select from a variety of categories and search for your thing. Also, there are other cool things; let’s say you type Fortnite in the search box: it will give you the search result from Bing, and you will see the details about what you have searched, especially if it’s popular. If it’s installed on your PC, it will show you the application. But if it’s not installed or you’re looking for something like news or doing an internet search, it will show you what you are looking for at the side. You will be able to see the available results of what you have searched in the Bing browser. That is the big change in the Start menu and search.

The second feature we will be looking at is the game bar. The old game bar looked really small in the previous version of Windows 10, which is update 1803. In the 1809 version, the game bar shows you the time and the capture. You also have control of the audio setting of the game you are playing, and there is a new feature called Performance. Here, you can find out how much of CPU any application is using.

Screen Snip

Another new cool feature in the upcoming update is Screen Snip. If we go into the notification panel area, there you will see a new toggle or option which says Screen Snip. This is a new way to capture your screen. If you go into the notification panel again, you can see the photo you just captured. You can click on it, and it will open a new feature called Screen Sketch. Here, you can do any kind of creative work to the photo. You can also manually search for Screen Sketch to open it.

Cloud clipboard

Another cool feature in the next update of Windows 10 is the Cloud clipboard. This is an amazing feature. First, go into the Settings app of the Windows 10. Search for clipboard, and after that, go into the clipboard settings. By default, this option is turned off, and you have to turn it on. Once this is done, press Windows logo key + V to view your clipboard history. So, whatever you do on your computer will be saved and can be viewed on the clipboard history. Bear in mind that if you restart your PC or log out, all this history will be gone, but if you want to save it, you can click on the pin icon and save yourself the trouble.

Now, let’s talk about the Microsoft Edge browser. In every major update, Microsoft updates its browser; however, there is little to no information on what key features of the browser have been updated.

Personalization

Microsoft also added new ways to personalize Windows 10. Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize from the drop-down menu, go to Personalization, then go to Color. Scroll down to choose your default app mode. Select the mode you prefer. If you select the light theme then, everything will be light. However, if you choose the dark theme mode, most built-in features and apps will be dark. This is the coolest upcoming feature for Windows 10. It’s not going to affect Google Chrome because Google Chrome is a third-party app. So, only expect the change should occur for the built-in features and apps like calculator, calendar, and File Explorer.

All in all, there will be plenty of new updated features for apps like Camera, Connect app, Cortana, etc. Microsoft will update everything, but the features described above will be some of the biggest visual changes.

As the release date draws closer, Microsoft has given users some information of the new features that were planned to be added but have been removed. The reasons why the features are being removed have not been clearly stated. Microsoft said that even though these features had been removed, other replacements or alternative methods had been introduced to carry out the same tasks. In total, seven features have been removed, while three others will no longer be developed. In this article, we are going to be talking about the features that have been removed from Windows 10 October 2018 update.

Here are the features that will be removed from the Windows 10 version 1809:

  1. Distribution Scan Management (DSD) or Business Scanning

The reason Microsoft gave for removing this feature is that devices that support secure scanning are not yet available.

  1. FontSmoothing setting in unattend.xml

The FontSmoothing setting allows you to choose the font antialiasing that you will be using throughout your system. Windows 10 has been configured to use ClearType by default, and that is why the FontSmoothing settings have been removed – they are no longer required. Enabling this setting in unatten.xml will produce no results.

  1. Hologram app

The Hologram app has been replaced with the Mixed Reality Viewer. If your passion is creating 3D word art, you will be able to create it in Paint 3D; then you can use the Mixed Reality Viewer to view the art you have created.

  1. Limpet.exe

Microsoft also announced that the limpet.exe tool would be removed. This tool was used to access TPM for Azure connectivity.

  1. Phone Companion

The Phone Companion app will no longer be available in the Windows 10 version 1809 largely because Microsoft no longer produces phones. You can still synchronize your mobile phone with your PC, using the Phone page in the Settings app.

  1. Trusted Platform Module (TPM) management console

The Device security page in Windows Defender now contains all the information which was available in the Trusted Platform Module management console. Therefore, it is not needed for TPM anymore.

  1. Future updates through Windows Embedded Developer Update for Windows Embedded Standard 8 and Windows Embedded 8 Standard

Microsoft will no longer be releasing new updates, using the Windows Embedded Developer Update server. New updates will be published through the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Features that are no longer being developed:

  1. Companion device dynamic lock APIs.

The Companion device framework (CDF) APIs let other devices unlock your PC. This option lets unlock your computer with other Bluetooth devices which are connected. Your PC will lock when a Bluetooth device which is connected to it is far away and will unlock when the device is brought closer. Microsoft mentioned that this feature would no longer be developed because third-party apps did not adopt the CDF method.

  1. OneSync service

The OneSync service synchronizes data between the Calendar, Mail, and the Peoples app. Since Microsoft has introduced a sync engine to the Outlook app, the OneSync service is no longer required.

  1. Snipping tool

The Snipping tool is a Windows 10 app which is used to take screenshots. You can capture the entire screen or just a small section of it. Microsoft will introduce a new feature in the Windows 10 version 1809 called Snip and Sketch. This tool will have the same function as the Snipping tool as well as additional features. You will be able to launch the Snip and Sketch tool by pressing the Windows logo key + Shift + S. It can also be launched from the Action Center. The Snipping tool will no longer be developed as a separate app, but its functions will be integrated into the Snip and Sketch tool.
