Errors in Windows are widely known issues experienced by some users in 2018. They are relatively easy to fix provided the system operator has identified the error code and understood its cause.

Error code 0x80070422 usually occurs due to issues with Windows Firewall. These issues tend to manifest during a Windows update in Windows 10, or during an update of Windows defender,  or even when a third-party firewall is put to use. They can also appear when you attempt to download new software from the Windows store. When the error code is due to issues with Windows firewall, it might be accompanied by a message stating that firewall has not been successful in changing some of your system settings.

PC users tend to find this error more annoying when it occurs during a Windows update, and it is easy to see why – Windows 10 does not install updates due to it. Getting people to update their PCs was problematic enough already  and this error actually prevents Windows from downloading updates when users try to update their system.

Windows needs regular updates to keep itself ahead of a myriad of security loopholes or vulnerabilities. Windows updates usually contain plenty of important patches, bug fixes, and some new features. A system that has not been updated in a long while is more vulnerable to attacks and might be less functional. This is why fixing this error should be a top priority for all categories of people with systems running Windows.

  1.    Disabling IPV6:

IPv6 (Internet Protocol 6) is the relatively new computer address protocol created to eventually replace IPv4 (Internet Protocol 4). The available IP addresses under the latter, which is currently the most popular standard in the world, is constantly diminishing. The creation of IPv6 solved this availability or space problem and brought some additional features lacking in IPV4.

Some users were able to fix this Windows update error by disabling IPv6. Very few networks have specific requirements for IPv6, so it is extremely unlikely that disabling it would cause you any trouble. To disable IPv6, follow these steps:

Proper disabling of IPv6 is carried out by editing the registry, and we recommend this method. Here is how to go about it:

  • Click on the Windows icon or Windows button on your keyboard and search for regedit
  • Right-Click on the returned result and click on Run as administrator to launch Registry Editor
  • Go through the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet, services, TCPIP6, and Parameters
  • Now right-click on Parameters, click on New, click on DWORD (32-bit) Value
  • Type DisabledComponents in the presented field and press the Enter key on your keyboard
  • Right-click on the newly created DisableComponents and select Modify
  • Write ffffffff in the box for Value Data
  • Save changes by clicking on OK
  • Exit Registry Editor and restart your PC

Alternatively, you can disable IPv6 for a specific adapter by following these steps:

  • Click on the Windows icon or Windows button on your keyboard and search for Control Panel.
  • Click on the result to launch the program.
  • Search for Network and Sharing Center and click on the returned result.
  • Locate your current connection, right-click on it and select Properties. You will now be presented with a list of items.
  • From these items, locate Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck the box for it.
  • Save changes by clicking on OK.
  • Exit and restart your system to see if the changes have an effect on your problems.

The pathway for performing this action might vary depending on what version of Windows 10 you are currently running. Nevertheless, we would provide steps that should work for most users:

  • Navigate through the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Windows Update > Auto Update
  • Verify EnableFeaturedSoftware Data and ensure that it is set to 1
  1.    Restarting Network List Service:

Some users reported that after performing this fix, they stopped seeing the error message 0x80070422. Turning off and turning back on the Network List Service might just solve your problem. Do the following:

  • Click on the Windows icon or Windows button on your keyboard and search for Run.
  • Click on the result to launch the Run program
  • Type services.msc and press the Enter key to launch Windows Services. You will be presented with a list of local services
  • Find Network List Service, right click on it, and select Restart
  • Close all programs, restart your system and see if your issues have been resolved

Some users reported that after going through these steps, they stopped seeing error 0x80070422.

  1.    Cleaning your system registry:

Some of the methods described here already involve editing your system registry to perform some action. Your system registry is like a database which stores settings and preferences for various applications and even for your operating system (Windows).

Your system registry is involved in almost every phase of your computer’s operations. Issues associated with the system registry can sometimes cause reoccurring error messages. This is why regular system registry cleaning [AB7] is required to keep your registry running at its optimum level.

You can manually edit the registry, but you must exercise great caution when performing when performing such acts. This is because deleting or editing the wrong files in the registry results in even worse problems, e.g. your system failing to start up properly.

Some specific programs are usually utilized to clean the registry. We recommend you to use a powerful and trusted registry cleaner such as Auslogics Registry Cleaner to clean your registry. It is one of the best registry cleaner s available and it is FREE. Download and run this program to solve your error. You could also get a boost in your system performance as a bonus for using this tool.

  1.    Using Windows 10 Update Troubleshooter:

Microsoft bundled Windows 10 with a host of new features or programs, and one of them was a troubleshooter for fixing issues related to Windows 10 updates or problems affecting Windows components.

If you are still seeing the error message code 0x80070422, then using this troubleshooter might prove helpful. Here is how to go about it:
