The IPv4 DNS address in your computer is set to either automatically get the DNS address, or it already has the DNS address of your Internet Service Provider. You could be encountering the ERR_TUNNEL_CONNECTION_FAILED error in Chrome because none of the settings mentioned above is functioning properly. To fix this problem, you can set your DNS address to that of the Google DNS server. Here is how to do it:

  • Now, click Properties in the next window that pops up.
  • Navigate to the Networking tab and double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
  • Go to the General tab in the next window and select Use the following DNS server addresses, then enter the Google public DNS server addresses:
  1. 8.8.8.8 for the Preferred DNS server
  2. 8.8.4.4 for the Alternate DNS server
  • Now, check the Validate settings upon exit box, then click OK to save the changes you have made.
  • Restart your PC and open Google Chrome to check if the error is fixed.

Solution 4. Delete your browsing data

If you can surf the internet with other browsers but get the ERR_TUNNEL_CONNECTION_FAILED error when you try to use Chrome, then it is evident that the problem is with Chrome. So, to fix this problem, we suggest that you clear out your browsing data from Google Chrome. Here is how to do it:

  • When you open Chrome, click on the 3 dots at the right end of the window to open the Chrome menu, then click on Settings.
  • Scroll down and click Advanced.
  • In the next page, click Clear browsing data under the Privacy and security option.
  • Now, set Time range to All time, then click Clear Data.
  • Once everything is done, restart Chrome.

Solution 5. Reset Google Chrome settings

You can also try to reset Google Chrome settings if the above method did not work. Here is how:

  • Follow the steps in Solution 4, but this time, once you have opened the Advanced option, scroll down and select Restore settings to their original defaults under the Reset and clean up section.
  • In the next window, click Reset Settings.
  • Restart Chrome and try to access the internet again.

Solution 6. Update Google Chrome

An outdated version of Google Chrome can also be the reason for this error. In this case, you need to update Chrome to the latest version. Here is how to do it:

  • Open Google Chrome and click on the 3 dots at the right side of the window
  • Then select Help and click About Google Chrome. This will open a new window, and your browser will start looking for updates. If there are any updates, they will be installed.
