Registry Console Tool

reg.exe. What is it?

Reg.exe is the Microsoft Registry Console Tool.

This file is part of Microsoft Windows Operating System. Reg.exe is developed by Microsoft Corporation. It’s a system and hidden file. Reg.exe is usually located in the C: folder and its usual size is 50,176 bytes.

Reg.exe is a Command Prompt utility for adding, changing, and displaying registry subkey information and values in registry entries. The functionality of reg.exe is very similar to regedt32.exe’s functionality, but reg.exe allows the user to perform the necessary actions from the Command Prompt. To use reg.exe, the user needs to issue a command from a shortlist of options, such as query, add, delete, update, copy, save, backup, restore, load, and unload, which needs to be followed by one or more optional parameters. For instructions on how to use reg.exe and a detailed list of its parameters, please refer to this Microsoft page.

Important: RBOT can mask itself as reg.exe. Scan your PC with Auslogics Antivirus to make sure it's not infected.

The reg.exe process is safe. Disabling it can be dangerous because programs on your computer need it to work correctly. Some other processes use the same file name.
