To install the drivers, here&#8217;s what you need to do:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the Win +R shortcut and type devmgmt.msc in the \u201cRun\u201d box.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cOK\u201d to launch the \u201cDevice Manager\u201d window.<\/li>\n<li>Locate the device whose driver you intend to update, right-click it and select \u201cUpdate driver\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Select the second option, which is \u201cBrowse my computer for driver software\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Now, browse the location of the downloaded driver and select it.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cNext\u201d to install the driver.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once you&#8217;re done, try using your external device again to check if the transfer succeeds.<\/p>\n<h3>Option 2: Automatically Update the Device Driver<\/h3>\n<p>Alternatively, if you lack the time or technical skills to accomplish the tasks, you&#8217;re better off using a reliable tool like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.auslogics.com\/en\/software\/driver-updater\/\">Auslogics Driver Updater<\/a> to automatically install all the driver updates for you. The troubleshooter will try to find and fix issues affecting your device, and hopefully, your device should function again.<\/p>\n<p>To run the troubleshooter, follow the steps below:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press Win + I to launch \u201cSettings\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Select Update &amp; Security &gt; Troubleshoot, and then click on \u201cHardware and Devices\u201d to highlight it.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cRun the troubleshooter\u201d and wait while Windows tries to detect and fix problems with the hardware and devices connected to your PC.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Still running into the same error? Try the next fix below.<\/p>\n<h2>Fix 4: Repair Corrupted System Files<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s also possible that some of your system files have been corrupted by malicious software or a virus, leading to the \u2018A device attached to the system is not functioning\u2019 error message. To repair those files, Windows has built-in tools like System File Checker (SFC) and DISM. Once it\u2019s done, restart your PC and reconnect the external device to check if it now functions correctly.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you get the \u201cWindows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them\u201d message, try running DISM commands. To do so, follow the steps below:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open \u201cWindows PowerShell\u201d as shown above, type the following command, and press \u201cEnter\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>DISM \/Online \/Cleanup-Image \/RestoreHealth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This command replaces the corrupted files with good ones from the Windows update servers. The system scan may take a while, and you should allow it to run uninterrupted.
