\n<\/span>Cortana was well received across the globe due to its versatility and useful features ranging from controlling your music to helping you with directions. One major feature is the ability to take notes and send emails. Today’s post addresses the \u201cWhy can’t Cortana take notes?\u201d issue and provides solutions on how to fix \u201cCortana can’t send dictated emails\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

First, let’s take a look at how to use Cortana to send an email.<\/span><\/h2>\n

How to Send an Email with Cortana on Windows 10<\/span>
\n<\/span>Microsoft has given Cortana, your personal assistant on Windows 10, the ability to read emails aloud and send dictated emails. To write and send an email, you have to activate the feature called \u201cHey Cortana\u201d on your device to wake up Cortana.<\/span><\/p>\n

To enable \u201cHey Cortana\u201d:<\/span><\/h3>\n

  1. Click the \u201cStart\u201d menu, and type Cortana.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. \u00a0Click on \u201cCortana & Search settings\u201d to launch the \u201cTalk to Cortana\u201d section in the \u201cSettings\u201d app.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Toggle the \u201cLet Cortana respond to \u201cHey Cortana\u201d\u201d button to \u201cOn\u201d. Cortana will then take you through a quick process of reading out statements to teach her how to respond to your voice.<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    When you’re done setting up Cortana, use the steps below to compose and send an email.<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Simply say, \u201cHey Cortana write an email\u201d. Cortana will ask you who you want to send an email to. Here, you can say the person\u2019s name or nickname (you must have the contact saved in the address book) or click the + icon to pull up a list of your contacts for you to select from. If you’re sending an email to multiple people, you can say their names separated by \u201cand\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Next, Cortana will ask you what the subject of the email is and what you want to say in the body of the email.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. To make changes before sending the email, simply say, \u201cMake changes\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. When you’re finished composing the email, click the “Send” button.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      As you can see, composing and sending an email using Cortana is quick and simple. Cortana also provides an option to continue in your default email app, which is useful if you want to add an attachment.<\/span>

      What If Cortana Won’t Send Emails<\/span>
      \n<\/span><\/h2>\n

      Currently, Cortana is available in selected countries, including the USA, UK, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, and China. Plans are underway to expand Cortana\u2019s use to other countries worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Sending emails is enabled for U.S. and UK Windows users only. Other countries will have to wait a little longer to get access to this feature.<\/span><\/p>\n

      How to Fix Cortana Can’t Send Dictated Emails<\/span><\/p>\n

      Solution 1: Restart Cortana<\/span><\/h2>\n

      The first fix is to disable Cortana and then re-enable it again. To do this:<\/span><\/p>\n

      1. Click the Cortana search box, and then select the \u201cSettings\u201d icon. In an older Windows version, select \u201cNotebook\u201d and then click \u201cSettings\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. Select the first option under \u201cCortana\u201d and toggle the button to \u201cOff\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. Next, go to Settings > Privacy > Inking and typing personalization.<\/span><\/li>\n
      4. Click to toggle the button to \u201cOff\u201d under \u201cGetting to know you\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n
      5. Likewise, be sure to turn off the \u201cHey Cortana\u201d feature in Settings > Cortana > Talk to Cortana.<\/span><\/li>\n
      6. Next, restart your computer, and then repeat the steps outlined above to turn on all the features.<\/span>

        Now try to send an email and see if Cortana will start taking notes.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Solution 2: Change Your Regional Settings<\/span><\/h2>\n

        Adjusting your PC\u2019s regional settings can unlock some of the features that limit Cortana from sending dictated emails.<\/span><\/p>\n

        These are the steps to follow:<\/span><\/h3>\n

        1. Launch Settings > Time & Language.<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Next, choose \u201cRegion\u201d, and select \u201cUnited States\u201d or \u201cUnited Kingdom\u201d from the drop-down list under “Country or region”.<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. Move to \u201cRegional format\u201d, and select \u201cRecommended [(English United States)]”.<\/span><\/li>\n
        4. Select \u201cLanguage\u201d on the left pane, and choose \u201cEnglish (United States)\u201d under \u201cWindows display language”.<\/span>
          \n<\/span>Cortana should now be able to take notes and send dictated emails.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Solution 3: Check Windows Speech Recognition<\/span><\/p>\n

          Problems with Windows Speech Recognition can lead to the \u2018Cortana can’t send dictated emails\u2019 issue on Windows 10. To fix this:<\/span><\/p>\n

          1. Address Cortana by saying \u201cStop listening.\u201d <\/span><\/li>\n
