The same account would be used for different functions such as checking your email.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, did you know you can use Windows 10 without a Microsoft account?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this article, you&#8217;ll learn how to delete a Microsoft account and create a local account on your computer.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Why use a Microsoft account?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Configuring your Windows 10 using a Microsoft account has many benefits, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Synchronizing your PC\u2019s layout, including the themes and wallpapers across any Windows device you log in to.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Access files in OneDrive and all your emails via Outlook.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use Skype on any device.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sync passwords and settings across devices.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, not everyone feels comfortable using a Microsoft account to log in to their computers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether it&#8217;s because of data privacy concerns, the security of your system, or you simply miss operating your PC the old-fashioned way, now you have the option to use a local Windows 10 login.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Can I delete my Microsoft account?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, you can. However, it&#8217;s not possible to delete your account while you&#8217;re still signed in to your computer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You need to create a local account to log in to your machine first. Remember to save all your work because this setup will require you to log out and log in to your account again.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open the Start menu.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Select Settings &gt; Accounts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under \u201cYour info\u201d tab (or Your email and accounts tab, depending on your Windows 10 version), you\u2019ll see your account information.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choose the \u201cSign in with a local account instead\u201d option to open the \u201cSwitch to a local account\u201d wizard.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Type in your current Microsoft password to verify your account.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click \u201cNext\u201d and enter the name you want to use to login to your account.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll be prompted to enter a secure password and password hint.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click \u201cNext\u201d and review your information.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click \u201cSign out and finish.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These steps show you how to use a local Windows 10 login. If you want, you can leave your Microsoft account in your system in case you will need it in the future. Otherwise, you can decide to get rid of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To remove the Microsoft account:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open Settings, and go to Accounts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Select \u201cEmail and app accounts.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the bottom of the page, under \u201cAccounts used by other apps,\u201d highlight your Microsoft account.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click \u201cRemove,\u201d and then \u201cYes\u201d to confirm.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, this action does not completely remove all your details from Microsoft servers and could be used by a third party without your consent. Before deleting your Microsoft account, don\u2019t leave anything important pending.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember to cancel subscriptions, delete your credit card details, erase all your emails (including the trash), clear any sensitive data you might have saved in OneDrive, and most importantly, back up your files.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, to delete your Microsoft<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">account, follow these instructions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Type \u201clogin.live.com\u201d (no quotes) in your preferred browser and enter your login details<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Locate the \u201cSecurity\u201d tab, and scroll down to the bottom of the page.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click on \u201cMore security options.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Navigate to the bottom of the page again and select \u201cClose my account.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The next window that opens shows you what you should do before closing your account.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read through and click \u201cNext.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check all the boxes to acknowledge you understand the effects of closing your account.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the bottom of the page, specify why you want to close your Microsoft account in the \u201cSelect a reason\u201d drop-down list.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click on \u201cMark account for closure.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Microsoft allows up to 60 days before permanently deleting your account.
