Confirming the errors, Microsoft stopped distributing the October Update, also known as Version 1809, urging users to wait until the update was released to their devices automatically.

To prevent similar problems from happening in the future, users will have to check for compatibility issues and hardware requirements before receiving the update.

Are you running into problems with the new installation? Here are some of the common problems and how to fix them.

How to fix issues related to Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Occasionally, you may encounter errors when upgrading to a new Windows 10 version. The isolated reports, since downloading the October Update, are listed below together with their fixes.

How to fix storage problems during installation?

To successfully install the latest Windows 10 version, your device should fulfill the system requirements. If you’re upgrading a 64-bit version, you need at least 20GB of disk space. For those upgrading a 32-bit version, the minimum disk space required is 16GB.

To free up disk space:

Click the Start Menu, and then go to Settings > System > Storage.

Navigate to Storage sense, and then click ‘Free up space now’.

Select all the files you want to delete, leaving out ‘Windows Setup temporary files’, and ‘Windows ESD installation files’. These files are required for the upgrade.

Click Remove files.

This creates space and should allow Windows 10 to install the update.

iCloud issue

In the Windows 10 October 2018 Update, iCloud for Windows doesn’t sync properly and neither does it install. Apple and Microsoft are working to address the issue, and users may have to wait until an update is released.

If you had already installed iCloud, you’ll not be able to install the October 2018 update.

Issues with Intel CPUs

Intel processors appear to have compatibility issues with the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. Reports indicate that Intel Display Audio driver is causing problems that may lead to high processor usage and reduced battery life.

If you see a notification stating “What needs your attention,” and then displays “Intel Audio Display (intcdaud.sys), KB4465877,” you’ll not be able to upgrade to the latest Windows 10.

Skylake or newer chips running version 10.25.0.3 to 10.25.0.8 are the most affected. However, Intel Display Audio drivers using version 10.25.0.10 have already been fixed and shouldn’t be experiencing any problems.

Wi-Fi and internet issues

If you experience Internet connection problems, even when using Wi-Fi, try the following steps:

Go to Settings by right-clicking the Start Menu.

Click Update & Security, and then select Troubleshoot.

Select Network Adapter, and then click Run the troubleshooter.

Select the network adapter you want to diagnose and click Next.

If Windows 10 is unable to resolve the issue, try to reset the Wi-Fi settings:

Open Settings > Network & Internet

Select Status, and then click Network reset

Confirm by clicking Yes, then restart your computer

Media Creation Tool issues

If you’re installing the October Update using a DVD or a USB drive, you’ll need the Media Creation Tool. If you encounter problems, close and re-launch the app. When the app completes downloading the files, disconnect the internet connection.

Install the files (while offline), and reconnect the Internet when the process is successful. Go to Start Menu > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and then click Check for Updates. This downloads the remaining files to finish the installation.

If you use the Media Creation Tool and you see a ‘DynamicUpdate’ error message, go to File Explorer, and double-click C:\\$Windows.~WS\\Sources\\Windows\\sources to open the update program.

Microsoft Edge and other apps don’t connect to the internet

If you get the “Hmmm… can’t reach this page” error message in Edge, Microsoft says the solution is to enable IPv6.

Open Settings, and then navigate to Network & Internet > Status > Network and Sharing Center.

Select your network adapter, and click Properties > Networking.

Tick the box next to Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).

Click OK.

Corrupt ISO file

Windows 10 October 2018 Update cannot install properly if the ISO file is corrupted. If you see the error 0x8007025D – 0x2000C, try to download the ISO file again. Create a bootable DVD or USB, and try the installation process again.

‘The update isn’t compatible with your computer’ error

This error message indicates that your device is missing some of the latest Windows updates. To solve this issue, you’ll have to install previous versions first. To check for updates, follow these steps:

From the Start Menu, select Settings.

Navigate to Update & Security > Windows Update, and click on Check for updates.

If Windows finds updates, install them and then try to run the Windows 10 October 2018 Update again.

What is new about Windows 10 October 2018 Update?

These are some of the changes you should expect in Windows 10 Version 1809.

‘Your Phone’ app

The app allows you to text from your PC and even view your phone’s photos directly from the computer.

You can send the link you’re viewing on your phone to your computer’s screen easily.

File Explorer has a dark theme

The dark theme supports File Explorer context menus as well as Open and Save file dialog windows.

Cortana

Cortana now gives you previews showing the best results when you start typing in the search panel.

Microsoft Edge

The jump list has been updated to show your top sites.

Media Autoplay now lets you choose whether or not to allow sites to automatically play videos.

The download page gives you more options such as “Copy link,” and “Show in folder.”

Windows Defender Security Center is renamed Windows Security

Windows Defender Exploit Guard is now available, and you can enable it by turning on “Block suspicious behaviors” in the “Virus & threat protection settings.”

A new page showing other security apps installed on your device has been added.

The new feature update for Windows 10 introduces the Feedback Hub application through which users will report the severity of bugs and request features, among other functions.

We understand how frustrating it is to lose your organization’s or personal data. However, with Auslogics BoostSpeed, you can recover files accidentally deleted or lost during a system upgrade.

On top of that, BoostSpeed will scan and fix your disk drives, create space on your disks by removing duplicate and junk files, as well as diagnose your computer to ensure the new Windows 10 October 2018 Update installs without complications.

After pausing the release of Windows 10 October 2018 Update following complaints from users, Microsoft has begun rolling out the update once again.
