The Safe Mode launches Windows 10 with a minimal user interface where only the necessary drivers and programs are loaded. It makes it easier to troubleshoot issues that might be causing your computer to become slow, freeze or even crash.<\/p>\n

Some of the causes of a sluggish system include a malware infection, a faulty application or a driver in your operating system. In either of these cases, starting Windows 10 in Safe Mode may be the only way to boot your PC.<\/p>\n

One of the questions users frequently ask is, \u201cCan I repair Windows 10 using Safe Mode?\u201d This tutorial shows you how to boot into Safe Mode with Windows 10 and how to use it.<\/p>\n

How to start Windows 10 in Safe Mode<\/h2>\n

By default, Windows is set to boot automatically in Safe Mode after it fails to start normally more than three times. However, you can manually start your computer in Safe Mode.<\/p>\n

Method 1. Use the System Configuration tool (msconfig.exe)<\/h2>\n
    \n
  1. Press the Windows Key and type msconfig.<\/li>\n
  2. Hit Enter to launch the System Configuration window.<\/li>\n
  3. Click the \u201cBoot\u201d tab.<\/li>\n
  4. Check the \u201cSafe boot\u201d box under \u201cBoot options.\u201d<\/li>\n
  5. You can try out the different options listed below “Safe boot.”<\/li>\n
  6. Click Apply, and then \u201cOK.\u201d<\/li>\n
  7. Click \u201cRestart\u201d for your device to boot into Safe Mode.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Method 2. Use Shift + Restart<\/h2>\n

    You can also use this method if you can’t log into Windows, but you can get into the sign-in screen.<\/p>\n

    1. On your keyboard, press and hold the Shift Key.<\/li>\n
    2. Click Start > Power > Restart. (From the sign-in screen, hold the Shift Key and click \u201cRestart\u201d at the bottom right corner of your screen).<\/li>\n
    3. Choose \u201cTroubleshoot\u201d from the window that opens next.<\/li>\n
    4. Go to Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.<\/li>\n
    5. Here, you can either choose:<\/li>\n
    6. 4 or press F4 on your keyboard to trigger Safe Mode.<\/li>\n
    7. 5 or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.<\/li>\n
    8. 6 or press F6 to boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Method 3. Use the Settings app<\/h2>\n

      1. Click Start > Settings, or press the Windows Key + I to open the Settings app.<\/li>\n
      2. Click Update & Security > Recovery.<\/li>\n
      3. Select \u201cRestart now\u201d under Advanced Startup.<\/li>\n
      4. Your PC restarts showing the \u201cChoose an option\u201d window.<\/li>\n

        How to fix your Windows 10 PC in Safe Mode<\/h2>\n

        After Windows starts in Safe Mode, you can troubleshoot issues and perform most of the regular maintenance tasks on your system.<\/p>\n

        Update Device Drivers<\/h2>\n

        To eliminate the possibility that your hardware drivers are causing problems, you’ll want to update them. To make it easier, use\u00a0Auslogics Driver Updater<\/a> to install the latest drivers from the manufacturers.<\/p>\n

        Incompatible drivers may cause system instabilities, and since you need the correct version for the drivers to work, Auslogics Driver Updater will scan your computer and identify missing or outdated drivers.
