For example, if you were looking through your Task Manager and the dpupdchk.exe process caught your eye, you might be tempted to look for more information. And you would be right in doing so, too. Sometimes viruses and malware can disguise themselves as important processes and worm their way into your system. To prevent that from happening, you, of course, need a great anti-malware tool like Auslogics Anti-Malware. It will scan your computer for malware and remove it. Hopefully, you will install it in time before your computer is exposed.

But what is dpupdchk.exe and how to know if it is actually malware or not? There is no description, and it’s always coming back no matter what you do. Let’s say that there would be a reason to worry if we didn’t know what it is, but lucky for you, we do!

Essentially, dpupdchk.exe is a process that is connected to the update checker from Microsoft IntelliPoint

There is a way to check if it is what it’s trying to represent.

Method 1. If you are using Windows Vista, you can right-click this process. Then select Open File Location. When the pathway opens, you can check the properties of the file.

Method 2. Let’s take a look at the Registry and find out what the registry keyword is attributed to this file. You will see that the pathway has something to do with updating.

Method 3. We do not recommend removing this file, never mind if you are tired of it or not. If it’s not malware and you have tried to find out its origins, you may be sure that the file is needed in the computer. Yes, you might ask: “Do I need dpupdchk.exe running in the task manager?”, and the answer will probably be yes.

All evidence points towards some process that is in need of this file, so you cannot delete it. If you do, you will get a lot of errors that may, in fact, bury your system alive. So, why bother with that when there is a perfectly good workaround?

The workaround. The idea is to replace dpupdchk.exe with a fake file that does nothing.

Here is how you do it

Step 1. Open this pathway: C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft IntelliPoint

Step 2. Rename your dpupdchk.exe file to something other.

Step 3. Replace the renamed file with a fake dpupdchk.exe file.

Step 4. Never worry about dpupdchk.exe in your Task Manager ever again.

Hopefully, this guide resolved your issue and put your mind at ease. Make sure you never lose sight of important processes and any evidence of malicious software on your computer and install a highly functional tool like Auslogics Anti-Malware.

There are many mysterious things happening in our computers every day, but some of them are more important to notice than others.
