You need to take action precisely in the window of time before Windows loads completely in order to access BIOS. If you miss the time, you will have to reboot. It’s important to mention that different devices have different hotkeys for accessing BIOS. Below you will find detailed instructions on how to access BIOS on various brands of devices, such as HP, Dell, Asus, Acer.

On an HP device:

  • Step 1. Make sure your device has Windows 7 installed on it and was manufactured in 2006 or later.
  • Step 2. Turn off your device and then restart it. Start pressing F10 repeatedly until you see the BIOS screen after the first screen comes on.

For PCs made before 2006, press F1 instead of F10.

For a Dell device:

  • Step 1. Turn off your PC and restart it in a few seconds.
  • Step 2. When the id screen is displayed, start pressing F2 repeatedly. The BIOS screen will then be displayed.

NB: do not press and hold the F2 button down, you need to repeatedly press it: otherwise, the system will consider it to be invalid command.

For an Asus device:

  • Step 1. Turn off the PC, wait a couple of seconds.
  • Step 2. Press and hold the F2 button and then click the power button once.
  • Step 3. Continue to hold the power button until the BIOS screen is displayed.

For Windows 10:

Because of the fact that Windows 10 loads faster than the previous versions, it’s impossible to get into the time window fast enough to press the F1 or F2 keys. That’s why there is another method of getting into BIOS on Windows 10. Follow these instructions:

  • Step 1. Restart your computer.
  • Step 2. Go to Settings>Update&Security.
  • Step 3. Select Recovery from the list of options.
  • Step 4. Select Restart Now under Advanced start-up.
  • Step 5. This will reboot the PC, and you will get a list of menu options to choose from.
  • Step 6. Open Troubleshoot>Advanced options.
  • Step 7. Select UEFI Firmware Settings.
  • Step 8. Click the Restart button here.
  • Step 9. The PC will restart and BIOS will launch.
